A dramatic rescue unfolded at Fort Funston on Saturday afternoon as San Francisco firefighters successfully saved a 12-year-old boy who was trapped on a 300-foot cliff.

Utilizing a California Highway Patrol helicopter, a firefighter was lowered on a cable approximately 150 feet down the cliff to reach the boy, who had ventured down the sandy bluff but found himself unable to climb back up, according to Lt. Mariano Elias.

Despite the perilous situation, the boy emerged from the rescue unscathed, thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of the emergency response team.

Fort Funston, a former military installation turned recreational area, is located on the picturesque southwest coast of San Francisco and is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
