British tourist has £5k stolen by Thai transgender in his hotel room
A British tourist who stayed up late drinking in his hotel with a Thai transgender was shocked when he woke up to find £5k worth of goods had been stolen.
The holidaymaker, who has not been named, and his friend welcomed transgender night worker Yannapat Sunthornchote, 40, to their hotel near Khao San Road in Bangkok, Thailand, on February 9.
The trio carried on partying in the room but when the lad woke up at 9 am the next morning he was horrified to see that his bag had allegedly been rummaged through.
His holiday cash, debit cards, iPhone, laptop, camera and power bank had all allegedly been stolen.
Yannapat said that she wanted to continue drinking and stay in his room, so he allowed her to enter.
However, when he woke up the next day at 9 AM, he discovered that several items were missing, prompting him to file a report at
Police Lieutenant Colonel Kornnarong Supanantananont from the Bang Yai district police station led the investigation team. They checked CCTV and arrested Yannapat in front of her condo on February 11 at 8 PM.
The officer said: 'Several items were seized from her. They included her clothes from the day of the incident, several shoulder bags, an iPhone XR, an Acer laptop with a charging cable, an HP laptop, a Canon camera with a lens, an Eloop power bank, a Monzo credit card, and a Revolut credit card.'
Cops said that Yannapat was charged with committing theft in a dwelling place and wrongfully using the electronic card of another person.
Yannapat admitted that she met with the victim's friend at Khao San Road and returned to their room to continue drinking before stealing their items while they were sleeping.
She said she took the stolen items back to her condominium and used their credit cards at a nearby 7-11 convenience store.
Yannapat said: 'I was motivated by greed, as I wanted to make money from selling them.'
Police Colonel Ronnapat Thapthimthongchai, superintendent of Bangyai Police Station, stated that the victim reported the incident on February 10 at 9 AM after several items worth more than 200,000 baht (4,416 GBP) were stolen.
The police received the arrest warrant at 3 PM and managed to arrest the suspect within 24 hours.
He warned tourists not to trust strangers they have recently met in entertainment venues.
The policeman added: 'We are happy to assist tourists who experience any problems on their holiday. But I also want to say that they must be careful and take extra care when they are on vacation.'
