Security in Indian capital of Delhi was beefed up and barricades were erected on its borders as police and armed forces prepared to stop the farmers' protest.

These happened in several areas, one of which included Ghazipur, a place located near the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border on February 13.

Visuals showed the heightened security in the area. Apart from the police, para-military forces were also present with every measure taken to ensure that the farmers did not get to enter the national capital. Furthermore, barricades were set up in several areas including the borders of Delhi with chains put on them. Not just this but needles were also erected on the road to ensure that the farmers, who would be travelling on vehicles, do not get to enter the capital. Rallies or processions of any kind was barred by the Delhi Police who imposed section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). These security measures were increased near the Ghazipur, Tikri and Singhu border areas. Drones also additionally deployed to keep an eye on the border areas so that the cops could monitor the situation carefully and take adequate measures.

As per a report, the farmers are protesting for the government to guarantee a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops. This was a condition which was agreed upon in 2021 when farmers called off their protest. Also, they have sought justice for victims of the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri in 2021 which led to the deaths of eight people, leaving several injured. Moreover, the farmers have also sought the implementation of the recommendations by the MS Swaminathan committee on agriculture, which sought the increase of MSP to 50 per cent above the weighted average cost of production. The farmers are also seeking a pension of Rs 10,000 ( USD 124.46) per month for those above 60 years of age and also more prices for sugarcane.
