This is the dramatic moment a pick-up truck crashed into a street light when a motorcycle in front suddenly switched lanes.

Dashcam footage from the truck shows the motorcycle driving over the white line on a highway in Samut Prakan province, Thailand, on January 28.

The two-wheeler then moved over to the right lane without warning, prompting the pickup driver to swerve to avoid a crash.

The manouevre sent the vehicle spinning onto the roadside before slamming its rear on a streetlamp.

The couple inside suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Chularat 1 Suvarnabhumi Hospital for treatment.

Police Major Anan Thongluea of Bang Phli Police Station said: 'We have collected evidence and questioned the couple. We are trying to track down the motorcycle rider for interrogation.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
