A tourist survived being struck by a train at a market that has a railway line running through it in Thailand.

The holidaymaker had been taking pictures at the Mahachai Market near the Mahachai train station in Samut Sakhon province on February 10 morning.

However, as he was browsing the stalls right next to the railway tracks, he was hit by the Mahachai - Wongwian Yai that had just departed the station.

Onlookers said they screamed to warn the injured man, but he could not hear them and was unable to avoid the coach.

Medics later arrived to give the tourist first aid. He was rushed to the nearby hospital for an injured leg and scratches on his face and body.

Railways markets, which which vendors lay their food across the tracks then move it when trains arrive, have become popular destinations for tourists to visit in Thailand.

The most famous, the Maeklong Railway Market near Bangkok, transforms eight times a day as vendors retract awnings and move merchandise mere inches from the oncoming train
