This is the moment a swarm of bees attacked devotees at a Buddhist monk ordination ceremony in Thailand.

Footage shows the visitors fleeing the temple as thousands of angry bees divebombed them at the Wat Suan Prik Thai in Nakhon Ratchasima province on February 11.

Two people were injured and taken to the Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital to be treated. One of them was discharged while the other has been hospitalised for two days.

A temple monk said the bees had built hives under the temple's roof and may have been agitated by the loud speakers used during the ritual.

He said: 'We were on our second round of circling the building when the swarm descended and attacked us.'

The monks said they were calling pest control to relocate the beehive.

In Thailand, monks undergo the ordination or 'Buat Nak' ritual, where novitiates are transported to a monastery in a grand procession. Their feet are not allowed to touch the ground until they reach their destination.

These processions usually feature music performed by bands or played through speakers, while parades of friends, family, and locals dance and sing their way to the local temple.
