A terrified woman watched as a wild bear tried to break into her home through the doggie door.

Amy Holt heard the beast scratching around on her front porch in North Bend, Washington, on February 7 evening,

Astonishing CCTV footage shows the black bear trying to squeeze through the pet flap before realising it was too big for the hole.

It then tried to push open the windows before giving up and wandering back into the woods.

Amy, who lives with her husband, believes the bear was tempted by the smell of food.

She said: 'The video is completely entertaining, but also makes me a little worried about waking up in bed with the bear next to me.

'We have had bears caught on our security cameras in the past, but they have never been a nuisance.

'We typically bring our bird feeders in at night to not tempt them, and we keep our garbage secured in our garage.'

Research from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) shows that black bears are found throughout the state.

They are more common than grizzly bears, which stay in thenortheastern part of Washington.
