Suspension bridge incident at Chinese scenic spot leaves tourists hanging
On February 13th, in Luoyang, northern China, an incident occurred at the Longtan Grand Canyon scenic area involving a suspension bridge in a high-altitude attraction, leading to multiple tourists hanging upside down in mid-air, appearing extremely precarious.
According to the staff at the scenic area, the incident may have been caused by the tourists themselves shaking, resulting in no injuries. All tourists were safely rescued by the safety personnel.
A staff member from the local County Culture and Tourism Bureau stated, "The project has been temporarily suspended. After investigation, there were no safety issues with the project; it was caused by the tourists shaking themselves. The bridge has double insurance, with safety ropes and safety locks. It was just that the involved tourists shook vigorously, causing themselves to lose footing. There are two security staff members on duty for this project, who also provided prompts and warnings at the time, promptly ensuring the safety of the individuals who lost footing and allowing them to successfully complete the experience. The tourists were uninjured, and they said it was their own playful actions."
Information shows that the Longtan Grand Canyon bridge is a high-altitude steel cable bridge, measuring 88 meters long and 36 meters high, constructed on a cliff. Some tourists expressed concerns that the incident might be related to the quality of the bridge, but a staff member from the Xin'an County Culture and Tourism Bureau responded, stating, "The project passed third-party testing in July 2023 with no issues, and the safety inspection period is one year."
