Police are searching for two British men who are believed to have murdered a Burmese businessman in Thailand.

The Scottish suspects, identified only as 'William' and 'John', allegedly met with Burmese national Kyaw Zeyar, 50, for a business deal at the Saranjai Mansion apartment block in Bangkok on February 13 evening.

However, the Brits reportedly had a heated row with Kyaw Zeyar when negotiations fell through.

They allegedly beat him to death, then ransacked his room and escaped with a mobile phone and five million THB (around 138,655 USD) in cash.

Kyaw Zeyar's step mum, who lives with him at the condo and was knocked unconscious during the scuffle, reported the attack to the police.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Therdsak Manaschon of the Lumpini Police Station said officers received a report at 11:15 pm and went to the 23-storey building to investigate.

They found the room in disarray, with a broken doorknob and the keycard slot with the batteries removed.

Kyaw Zeyar was lying dead on the floor in a white bloodstained polo shirt. No weapons were found at the scene.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Therdsak said: 'After reviewing the surveillance footage, we believe the suspects were the two dark-skinned Scottish men. One of them was bald.

'They hastily fled the scene after perpetrating the crime.

'We have coordinated with the Wat Phraya Krai Police Station to gather information on the suspects, who were residing at Shangri-La Bangkok hotel.

'Furthermore, we reached out to the Immigration Bureau at Suvarnabhumi Airport to prevent them from escaping Thailand.

'It is suspected that the victim and the suspects were engaged in black money business. Negotiations failed, which led to the murder.

'The cause of death is believed to be when the suspects forcefully struck the victim's head against the floor.'

Kyaw Zeyar's mother, who was also injured during the fight, said she and her son had been living in Thailand for around four months.

The deceased had bought a safe to store the five million THB cash earlier that morning before meeting with the British men at around 8:30 pm.

She said: 'I saw that they were fighting and I tried to intervene, but the man named William knocked me out cold. When I woke up, I found my son covered in blood but still breathing weakly.'

The frantic mum had called condo staff for help, but Kyaw Zeyar died while medics were administering CPR. They also discovered that the cash in the safe was missing, along with her phone.

Bizarrely, the suspects had left behind Kyaw Zeyar's password-locked phone, which had their contact information and private messages.

Police were this afternoon still tracking down the whereabouts of the British men.
