Couples prayed for 'everlasting love' at Buddhist shrines on Valentine's Day in Thailand.

Locals flocked to The Mall Korat, where several shrines honouring various Hindu gods were set up in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

The shrines, which were adorned with colourful flower arrangements, candles, and images of the Hindu pantheon, will be up from February 14 to 18.

Couples prayed to the deities for their relationships to last, while singles wished to find their soulmate.

There were also divination ceremonies and rituals led by a popular local fortune-teller Pensiriphat Charoenpetchakun.

Lucky spouses who present their marriage certificate during the ceremony were given extra freebies including a gift vouchers and figures of Hindu gods.

Finally, mallgoers can take part in social media contests promoting the event, with awards given to the chosen participants.

The Christian celebration of Valentine's Day has been a commercial success in the culturally flexible Southeast Asian country.
