STORYLINE:

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, is hosting an exhibition celebrating the works of Frans Hals, one of the most revered Dutch painters in the 17th century.

With a keen eye for detail and an unparalleled talent for capturing the essence of his subjects, Hals' works exude a sense of vibrancy and immediacy that continues to captivate audiences centuries later.

This event, which is scheduled to open to the public from February 16 to June 9, provides an immersive journey into the captivating world of Hals' art.

SOUNDBITE (English): FRISO LAMMERTSE, Co-curator of the Frans Hals exhibition
"We have brought together 48 paintings or almost 50 paintings of Hals. I think the most beautiful there are. He painted quite a lot, but we choose the most interesting and most expressive I think. So you really get an overview of Hals at his best.
So he was a portraitist, like quite a lot of 17th century Dutch artists. But what makes him special is his style. He mentioned that his contemporaries and before him, they all painted extremely smooth. So you didn't see any brush-stroke and he changes that completely. You always see his brush-stroke. But in the 17th-century, it was extremely original."
