A pony was seen poking its head out of a car roof as the vehicle sped along a motorway.

A motorist saw the filly standing in the back of the modified vehicle in the early hours of the morning in Prachuap Khiri Khan, southern Thailand.

The female pony is believed to have been in the process of being transported to a new home.

An astonished passing driver said: 'I was confused when I saw the pony and wondered how it could stay perfectly still like a doll.

'I had to wake up my friend to check I wasn't dreaming and it was actually a real anima.'

The well-mannered grey pony appeared to be tied with ropes. It moved its head as the car continued along the road - proving it was a live equine.

In developed countries, horse boxes are used to transport the animals for riding and commerce. However, subcivilized regions with little experience in horsemanship or animal welfare often improvise.
