A hapless husband was married for the 14th time on Valentine's Day in Thailand.

Sanan Songkon, 69, tied the knot with his bride Somneuk Sangkaew, 56, in a traditional group wedding ceremony in Krabi province on February 14.

Despite having 13 failed marriages, the optimistic husband said he was confident he had found his soulmate in Somneuk.

The sharp-dressed pensioner gushed: 'I came to obtain a marriage certificate with her because I am certain she will be my last love.

'I have had 14 wives, including her.

'I chose this day because it is the 14th of the month, and it falls on a Wednesday, the day I was born.

'I am confident that she is my soulmate because I have been with her for 10 years now. Hopefully, it doesn't go wrong now we are married.'

Sanan has had more than twice as many wives as King Henry VIII - who famously beheaded two of them.

However, he is still some way short of Guinness World Record holder Linda Wolfe, from Alexandria, Indiana, who was married 23 times.

Sanan added: 'I don't want to beat that world record. Now I am ready to settle down.'

Sanan and Somneuk were one of 11 couples taking part in the joint wedding.

The lively event was led by Krabi Governor Somchai Harnpakdeepatima, with more than 100 drummers, dancers, and spectators joining the colourful 'khan maak' wedding procession.

After passing through symbolic silver and gold gates, the couples were then rowed on kayaks to the middle of a reservoir at the venue, where they were presented with their marriage certificates.
