Farmers fly kites in to stop police drones from releasing tear gas on them
Indian farmers flew kites in an attempt to stop police drones from releasing tear gas shells on the border.
Smartphone footage recorded at the Shambhu border, in Punjab, India, shows the protesting group of farmers flying their kites on February 14.
In the clip, they can be seen using the long strings of kites to entangle the government drones' roots, aiming to force them to crash in a bid to prevent them from allegedly dropping tear gas on them.
The farmers have reportedly been committed to marching toward the capital New Delhi, while calling for a legal guarantee of maximum support price (MSP) and additional agricultural reforms.
They reportedly continued to gather at the border and even prepared their tractors to help them break through the multi-layer barricades.
However, the protests escalated when Haryana security personnel deployed tear gas shells and water cannons against the protesters in order to chase them away.
Urged to take precautions, the farmers then equipped themselves with water bottles, wet clothes, and even protective gear to minimise the impact.
Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare of India Arjun Munda, 55, called for a constructive dialogue and urged the farmers to avoid actions that would disturb the daily lives of ordinary citizens.
One of the farmers, Sarwan Singh Pandher, a prominent farmer leader, criticised the government and blamed them for prioritising corporate interests.
Pandher said: 'We urge the government to stop all this and ensure a positive atmosphere. We were ready for talks yesterday and we are ready for it even today.'
