Ambulance Narrowly Avoids Collision During Stormy Weather in Peabody, USA
This footage was filmed and produced 13 February 2024.
In a heart-stopping moment captured on dashcam footage, an ambulance from Cataldo Ambulance Service narrowly avoided a disaster on I-95 in Peabody during Tuesday's storm. Paramedic Tim Crosbie and EMT Tim Wareham were transporting a patient to Mass General Hospital in Boston when a sedan crashed in front of them, coming dangerously close to colliding with the ambulance.
Crosbie described the terrifying experience, saying, "Next thing I see out of the corner of my left eye is a car coming across the median, basically right at me." Wareham, who was inside the ambulance with the patient, witnessed the crash and described it as almost happening in slow motion.
Despite the close call, both Crosbie and Wareham remained calm and immediately sprang into action. Crosbie went to check on the driver of the sedan while Wareham stayed with the patient in the ambulance. Fortunately, the sedan's driver was found to be unharmed in the incident.
Massachusetts State Police reported that the sedan lost control while traveling north on the highway, causing it to crash across the median and strike a guardrail on the southbound side. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation responded to the scene to treat the road and repair the damaged guardrail, leading to some lane closures as a result.
Kristen Albrecht, Director of Program Development and Strategy at Cataldo Ambulance Service, commended the quick thinking and safe driving skills of Paramedic Crosbie in avoiding a potentially catastrophic accident. The ambulance crew continued on to Mass General Hospital with the patient after ensuring the driver of the sedan was safe and receiving further assistance.
