To welcome the Year of the Dragon, a wave of festive celebrations sweeps across the globe, with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds joining to experience the rich tapestry of Chinese Lunar New Year traditions.
In Iraq, the Iraqi-Chinese Friendship Association on Thursday held an event to celebrate the Chinese New Year in the capital city of Baghdad.
The event featured Chinese dragon and lion dances and other traditional Chinese performances.
In Kenya, an artistic exhibition aimed at showcasing different aspects of the Chinese dragon was held Thursday at Kenyatta University, Kenya's second-oldest public university.
The day-long event, titled the Dragon Design Exhibition, featured more than 40 artworks and was organized by Kenyatta University's Confucius Institute in partnership with the Shandong Institute of Arts and Crafts.
In New Zealand, the "Festival of Spring" Chinese Lunar New Year Gala Night was held Thursday night in the capital city of Wellington.
About 1,500 people enjoyed the two-hour show in the St. James Theater, home of the Royal New Zealand Ballet, enjoying performances including traditional Peking Opera, classic songs, festive songs and dances, stunning Kung Fu, and acrobatic arts.
Russia's St. Petersburg held the eighth primary and secondary school Spring Festival gala on Thursday, with more than 600 people from 18 schools or kindergartens celebrating the festival together.
The event was jointly organized by the Chinese Consulate General in St. Petersburg and the Government of St. Petersburg.
