A cargo train overturned killing at least one person in India.

The locomotive was carrying iron sheet rolls from Mumbai to Chandigarh when it was involved in an accident at the Zakhira flyover in Delhi on Saturday morning.

Ten carriages toppled onto the tracks as shocked onlookers scattered close to the Sarai Rohilla Terminal railway station.

Minutes after the incident, the fire and railway brigades arrived at the spot to launch a rescue operation with several feared to be trapped.

Police identified rail worker Rafiq, 70, as one of those killed in the crash.

Delhi Police stated that the derailment happened at 11:52 am. on Saturday. They are now investigating the cause of the incident.

A spokesman said: 'Today, February 17, information was received at 11.52 hrs regarding the derailment of a train near Zakhira Flyover.'
