Female Zambian Leopard stalks antelopes by hiding in a streambed
Leopards (Panthera pardus) are one of the most sought-after sightings on an African safari game drive. We came across this young female Leopard in the early morning as she was moving along a dirt road in the Bushcamp Company’s concession in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia. South Luangwa National Park has the highest density of naturally occurring Leopards in Southern Africa. The Leopard made her way into a dry streambed on the edge of a dambo, an area of seasonally flooded grassland that was replete with antelopes, particularly Puku (Kobus vardonii) and Impala (Aepyceros melampus). Using the dry streambed to cover her hunt, she stalked the grazing antelopes. Unfortunately for her, she was spotted, so her hunt failed.
