A driver was dragged from his car by policemen and passersby during a rampage through traffic in China.

Wang, 44, travelled at high-speed with his red off-road car before crashing into multiple vehicles in Chongqing, in south-western China, on February 12.

Footage shows cops and concerned citizens trying to stop the red car before the bloodied Wang was pulled out of the vehicle.

According to witnesses, the off-road vehicle lost control on Liberation Monument pedestrian street that night, zigzagging at an extremely fast speed.

The driver seemed to have completely lost control of the vehicle, disregarding the surrounding safety, and continued to accelerate and collide.

The street was filled with screams of fear and the sound of vehicle collisions. Police then arrived at the scene, attempting to intercept the out-of-control off-road vehicle.

However, the driver seemed unwilling to stop, continuing to accelerate and flee. A pursuit ensued with the help of onlookers.

After an intense chase, the police finally forced the off-road vehicle to a stop.

However, Wang had locked the car door, refusing to exit and even attempting to restart the vehicle to flee the scene.

Faced with this situation, the police and citizens had to break the window together to pull him out.

Once dragged out of the car, he displayed extremely emotional behaviour, crying loudly and calling for help. He was taken into custody and initiated further investigation.

In the preliminary investigation, the police found he was driving under the influence, causing him to lose control of his vehicle.

The Chongqing Police later said in a statement: 'Around 10:10 pm last night Monday Wang (male, 44 years old, from Kunming, Yunnan) drove a Yunnan-licensed off-road vehicle in the wrong direction on Zhonghua Road in Yuzhong District, Chongqing, collided with other vehicles, and attempted to flee.

'He was jointly restrained by on-site police and citizens, with no casualties.

'Currently, Wang has been criminally detained by the police. The case is under further investigation and processing.'
