An angry wild elephant chased away a couple riding a motorbike along a forest road.

The furious jumbo was alone when it spotted the pair - who had to make a hasty u-turn - in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand, on February 13.

Footage captured by an Insta 360 camera shows the bull thundering towards the couple as they made their getaway - with the rider Somnuk Nualsri laughing nervously and his girlfriend Patty scared for her life.

The aggressive male elephant - currently in musth while searching for a female - only slowed down when the pair were already too far away to catch.

Relieved Sommuk said: 'We could have died if the motorcycle was broken. We met the Khao Yai wild elephant for the first time, and that's what happened.

'My girlfriend would never have forgiven me if she was hurt.'

As the elephant stopped chasing, the couple drove away to a different route unhurt and reached their destination safely.

As of 2023, there are an estimated 3,084-3,500 wild elephants in Thailand. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still apath's edge estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in Thailand at the beginning of the 20th century. The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
