An ice sculpture festival was launched on Olkhon Island in Russia last Saturday.

Thirteen artists from Russia, Mongolia, and France displayed their talents in the International Ice Sculpture Competition, themed "The Mystery of Lake Baikal."

The ice sculptures, representing mermaids, dragons, eagles, and characters from Buryat folklore, stretched over a kilometre-long ice surface and an area of nearly 250,000 square metres.

Visitors can roam on the frozen lake and admire the amazing ice works.

The festival will last until March 8.
