This is the heartwarming moment a lesbian couple were married after living together for 11 years.

Wassana Singhern, 32, seen in the video wearing a suite, and her girlfriend Sasikorn Doknaree, 30, wearing a dress, finally tied the knot in a jubilant ceremony in Khon Kaen province on February 18.

Footage shows sharp-dressed Wassana, who identies as the man in the relationship, dressed in a red tuxedo leading the traditional Buddhist 'khan mak' wedding procession to the Infant Jesus School Nonsomboon, where Sasikorn was waiting.

Wassana and her relatives carried the impressive dowry of cash, gold accessories, diamond rings, and land titles to the venue, where she was barred by the bride's friends and family from entering.

To pass Sasikorn's 'keepers', Wassana had to perform several tasks traditionally done by the groom such as dancing and answering questions.

After paying respects to their parents, the happy couple exchanged rings in a tear-jerking ceremony as they vowed to love one another for eternity.

The wedding was also attended by local MP Ongart Chatchaiphonrat, part of the ruling government coalition.

Speaking to local media, an overjoyed Wassana said: 'I first got to know Sasikorn when we were both vendors selling items at markets and local fairs.

'We fell in love and we eventually opened a grocery store and stationery shop together. Sasikorn is the love of my life and I will do my best to make her happy.'

Despite being among the LGBT-friendliest countries in Asia, Thailand - which is best known for its ladyboys and lively gay nightlife - currently does not recognise same-sex marriage.

However, the Thai government approved a draft same-sex marriage bill in November 2023. The law is now set to be debated this year.
