A beauty salon owner was left with scarred arms following a botched surgery to remove her ‘bingo wings.'

Apinan Duendao, 37, said she felt self-conscious because of the saggy skin under her arms, or bingo wings, after losing weight in Bangkok, Thailand.

She went to a surgeon whom she had hired before to perform another procedure on her, but after the operation, she noticed her right arm turned unusually purple with painful scars.

Even before she could return to the doctor for a follow-up procedure, Apinan said the wounds had not fully healed so she filed a complaint to authorities.

Footage shows Apinan filing the legal complaint with her lawyer. She then showed off the ugly scar marks near her upper arm just above the armpit.

She said: ‘I used to weigh 110kg and was proud of myself for my weight loss. I wanted to remove the excess bingo wings and make myself more beautiful, but I could not believe what happened to me.

'My arms were like twigs and I had ugly wounds that would not heal.'

Apinan added the surgeon instructed her to return five days after the surgery to assess the wound, but she could not move them on the date of her follow-up.

She said: ‘I was so scared. The surgeon did not even offer to compensate me for what happened and only referred me to another doctor.

‘On top of it, I was asked to pay the other doctor two million baht (44,447.57 GBP) to fix my arms, but I negotiated with him to reduce the price to 300,000 baht (6,667.14 GBP).'

Apinan filed a complaint with The Medical Council of Thailand, seeking disciplinary action against the doctor.

She also lodged a complaint with the Committee on Public Health at the National Legislative Assembly.

She said: ‘I incurred travel expenses for treatment in Bangkok and required four doses of sleeping pills along with medication for depression.

‘It has impacted my physical and mental health.'

Investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Compared to Western countries, the cost of cosmetic surgery in Thailand is significantly lower. This is due to several factors like lower labour costs, less expensive medical supplies, and a competitive market.

Bingo wings is a slang term for the loose skin that hangs down on the upper arms, typically starting just below the shoulder and extending towards the elbow. They are sometimes called 'bat wings,' 'dinner lady arms' or 'nan flaps.'
