Belgian team Soudal Quick-Step triumphed in the first stage, completing the team time trial in 20 minutes and 32 seconds. Jonathan Vervenne, from the winning team, earned the first yellow jersey.
A total of 94 riders from 19 teams across the world are taking part in the annual race.
The race to run until February 25 will take the riders across the country, covering a total distance of 740km in eight stages.
The routes for this year's edition consist of long climbs during most of the stages.
