Powerful winds tear off building's outer during storm in China

This is the shocking moment strong winds caused part of a residential building's wall to peel off amid severe weather that battered the region.

The incident was captured on video by a resident during the storm in the city of Aksu in the Xinjiang Region of China on February 17.

The region had been faced with devastating storms and winds reaching up to 100 mph in what some locals have described as the worst weather they had experienced in 20 years.

In the video, the disastrous force of the winds that hit the region could beseen as they blew off an entire exterior part of a building's wall.

It was accompanied by a loud whistling sound that could be heard from inside the videographer's home.

The event shocked many locals, who stated: 'Haven't seen such strong winds for many years!'

According to state broadcaster CCTV News, due to the cold wave, Changji, Urumqi, Turpan, and other areas in northern Xinjiang experienced snowy and windy weather.

As many as 61 sections of highways were under two-way control due to snowfall as of 10:30 am on February 17.

At 5:58 pm on February 15, the Turpan Meteorological Observatory issued a red warning signal for strong winds.

It was forecasted that from the night of 16 to the night of 17, the Thirty-Mile Wind Area (G30, G312 Line fromDabancheng to Dahaiyan section) and the Hundred-Mile Wind Area (Qiketai to Liaodunsection) would experience gusts of 14 levels or above, which could reach speeds of up to103 mph.
