On the evening of February 20th, in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, freezing rain suddenly descended, causing slippery road conditions and leading to a multiple-vehicle collision on the southern section of the West Third Ring Road, involving as many as dozens of vehicles. After more than two hours of timely rescue efforts by traffic police and firefighters, all drivers and passengers were safely rescued, and the accident did not result in any casualties.

On the morning of the 21st, the Xi'an Meteorological Department responded, stating that this freezing rain hasn’t been spotted since 2001 in Xi'an.

"Freezing rain" is a mixture of ice and water. When this mixture descends to the ground and comes into contact with objects with temperatures below zero degrees Celsius, it immediately freezes into a smooth and transparent layer of ice, commonly referred to as freezing rain or ice glaze. Freezing rain typically occurs in winter or early spring, with more occurrences in the south than in the north. Freezing rain is a dangerous weather phenomenon that can cause extremely slippery road conditions. Additionally, freezing rain can have a significant impact on crops, resulting in reduced yields or even crop death.
