Nyanzin Drakpa, a 22-year-old senior at the Communication University of China, set up a Tibetan-language talk show team named Shoda, which means "come" in Tibetan, in 2021.
The idea flashed into his mind when Nyanzin Drakpa watched a talk show in Beijing. He hopes that more people can watch Tibetan talk shows.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): NYANZIN DRAKPA, Founder of Shoda Tibetan-language talk show team
"My name is Nyanzin Drakpa.
At first, there were only five people in our team. There was no concept of departments, and everyone did what they were good at. As time goes by, many talented people from various colleges have joined us. Now we cooperate with each other very well.
Normally speaking, a talk show has its own rhythm and special punchlines. One of the main differences between our performance and the common ones is definitely in language. We're taking about stories of our ethnic group in Tibetan language. I feel blessed to perform in my hometown."
Nyanzin Drakpa has been deeply influenced by his father Dorje Drakpa, a Tibetan comedian. In his childhood, he often followed his father to visit various performance venues, watching how his father brought joy to the audience.
Inspired by his father, Nyanzin Drakpa also devotes himself to his audience.
SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): NYANZIN DRAKPA, Founder of Shoda Tibetan-language talk show team
"Talk show performances depend very much on the audience. You need to mingle with them. You are not doing a solo on stage. You should always interact with the audience. All that we do is to entertain the audience. In the future, when I have the opportunity, I will take my team to go to the grassroots. No matter how hard, no matter how tired, no matter how far it is, I want to bring happiness to all places."
