On a blustery Saturday, February 17, British Divers Marine Life Rescue sprang into action upon receiving reports of a stranded dolphin at Praa Sands in Cornwall. Braving treacherous surf and inclement weather, first responders swiftly took control and transported the stranded dolphin back to safety.

The stranded marine mammal was identified as a striped dolphin, a rarity in UK waters due to its preference for warmer climates in the Bay of Biscay. Typically, stranded striped dolphins in the UK are found in poor health conditions, often necessitating euthanasia. However, this particular dolphin exhibited moderate health, offering a glimmer of hope for potential rehabilitation.

After further evaluation revealed minor injuries and signs of stress in the dolphin, a decision was made to transport it to the more sheltered Carbis Bay for a safer refloating attempt. Despite initial signs of recovery, the dolphin's health deteriorated rapidly, prompting a heartbreaking but necessary decision to euthanize the animal for its welfare.

The following day, another distress call led the team to a dolphin in the surf at Hayle, where a similar outcome ensued due to the declining health of the animal. Post mortem examinations conducted by the Cornwall Marine Pathology Team are expected to shed light on the life and health of these stranded dolphins, providing valuable insights into their welfare and well-being.
