Armed police brave day and night to tackle massive mountain fire emergency in southwestern China
Armed police officers braved day and night to tackle a massive mountain fire emergency in southwestern China.
The video was filmed in Bijie City in Guizhou Province on February 18
Fanned by strong winds, the fire spread rapidly, forming two fronts, east-west and north-south, posing a significant threat to the lives and property of local residents.
Responding swiftly to the emergency, at around 22:40, the Guizhou Provincial Armed Police Force dispatched seven vehicles and over 70 personnel equipped with 257 pieces of rescue equipment to the disaster site.
Upon arrival, the first priority was to coordinate with local authorities to assess the terrain, roads, and other vital information. A comprehensive understanding of the fire scene, including roads, water sources, and vegetation, was obtained.
A strategy of "sequential deployment, focused assault" was devised. Rescue personnel were organised into command, vigilance, observation, and rescue teams to seal off and control the core rescue area. They collaborated with local rescue forces to extinguish the fire, with observation teams utilising drones and loudspeakers to monitor the dynamics of the core area and fire, ensuring the absolute safety of rescue personnel while efficiently dealing with the situation.
The terrain at the fire site was challenging, with fierce flames and dense undergrowth. Following the principle of adapting to various situations, rescue personnel flexibly employed methods such as control, cutting, extinguishing, and sweeping, adopting a strategy of "dividing areas and combining firefighting" to clear fire points and guard the fire lines.
After 12 hours of day and night fighting, they successfully opened an isolation channel approximately 800 metres long and 5 metres wide, evacuating over 50 trapped residents. They bravely confronted the fire head-on, tackling treacherous sections, and overcoming obstacles without hesitation.
By noon on Monday, the fire had been brought under basic control at the scene.
The cause was being investigated. The video was provided by local media with permission.
