Itchy rhino uses whole tree for an awkward looking body scratch

This rhino uses a flimsy tree as an awkward-looking scratching post in Kruger National Park, South Africa.

The filmer said: "As we drove along, a strange movement caught the corner of my eye and I stopped, then reversed back to see what it was. I could see in the distance a medium-sized tree, called an appleleaf tree, shaking around in a very strange way.

"There was not even a breeze of air blowing, so it couldn't have been the wind. We proceeded closer for a better look. To everybody’s amazement, we discovered that a white rhino was using the tree as a rubbing post. Normally rhinos would opt for a more sturdy and harder rubbing post such as a rock or tree trunk.

"This rhino clearly had different plans, and decided that this appleleaf tree, with its large green leaves, was just right for the job, getting to that itch the rhino could just not scratch.

"Looking at how the rhino went about it, there was surely more than one itch on its huge body.

"Once done with the tree, the rhino casually continued feeding into the bush, leaving us all with a smile."
