Truck's brakes fail sending it crashing through shop
This is the dramatic moment a truck's brakes failed - sending it crashing through a pharmacy.
CCTV footage shows the lorry loaded with cassava speeding through a narrow alley before overturning and smashing into the store in Uthai Thani, Thailand, on February 18.
The pharmacy owner Ploy, 39, screamed as the vehicle and its cargo demolished the glass entrance and toppled shelves.
The owner's boyfriend Triamsak Boonpa recounted the moments before the incident, saying: 'I was outside the pharmacy while my girlfriend was busy cleaning and organising the shelves.
'The truck came speeding out of an alley on the opposite side of the road and crashed into the store. We had no time to react. Luckily, neither of us were hurt.'
The couple were uninjured, but the unnamed lorry driver reportedly suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
His two companions inside the truck said they were transporting cassava crop when the brakes malfunctioned and they lost control.
They said they managed to jump
Triamsak said the accident caused 200,000 baht of damage as most of the pharmacy's equipment and products had been destroyed.
The crash had also damaged a streetlight.
Meanwhile, the injured driver said he will pay compensation once he has recovered from his wounds.
Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
