A Thai husband who allegedly murdered his partner and then burned her body was taken by police on a perp walk to re-enact the crime.

Sirichai Rakthong, 33, had celebrated his birthday with part-time model Chonlada Muthuwong, 27, but they had a heated row on the drive home in Bangkok, Thailand, on February 18.

When they reached their house in nearby Nonthaburi province, the couple - who have one child together - countinued arguing. CCTV appeared to show drunk Sirichai battering Chonlada to death with a brick on the street outside.

Realising he had killed his girlfriend, Sirichai then allegedly stuffed her corpse in a suitcase and drove with their child to a rubber plantation in Prachinburi province around 93 miles away to burn her corpse.

Police discovered Chonlada's charred remains on February 20 by following the GPS signal on her phone.

They confirmed her identity as they found on the blackened skeleton the gold bracelet and ring she had worn at Sirichai's party.

The boyfriend reportedly admitted to the murder while being grilled by police later that evening. He could not face the death penalty.

Police Colonel Somphon Wongsrisoontorn, deputy commander of the Nonthaburi Provincial Police, said: 'The suspect testified that the scene of the murder was his house, where he used a blunt object to hit the woman on the head.

'He drove to a fuel station to buy petrol to burn the body.

'He also admitted that he had assaulted his wife along Soi Chaengwattana-Pakkret 38 before they went home.'

Police said the couple were reportedly drunk at the birthday celebration, and Sirichai may have lost his temper when Chonlada allegedly teased him about his ex-girlfriend.

The boyfriend was seen on CCTV appearing to attack Chonlada along the city's Chaeng Wattana Road, where police found several bloodstains.

Before Chonlada's body was found, Sirichai had earlier claimed that she forced him to pull over as they were driving home after their fight.

He said she fled and he couldn't go after her because their child was in the car.

Meanwhile, Chonlada's close friends claimed Sirichai was often violent towards her, including choking her and stepping on her face.

However, the couple's neighbours said they appeared to be a happy family, often doing activities together, and were never heard arguing at their house.

On February 22, cops took Sirichai to three different areas to re-enact the sequence of events in public - a regular and often drama-filled part of police investigations in Thailand.

Reporters and curious onlookers flocked to the scenes to watch as officers tried to control the crowd.

Surrounded by local media, a helmeted Sirichai pretended to douse Chonlada's body with two containers of petrol before police ushered him into a van.

Before leaving, Sirichai said: 'I would like to apologise for what I have done. I really feel worried about my child.

'If Chonlada could hear me, I will repay by doing everything I have promised to you.'

He was detained at the police station to face legal action.

Police Colonel Somphon Wongsrisoontorn said: 'The maximum punishment could be the death penalty. The court will decide if there should be leniency. We will investigate if there was more abuse.

'The child is being cared for by relatives of the mother.'
