Freezing rain blanketed a car in Xinyang City in central China on February 21.

Mesmerising moment shows the freezing rain cascading onto a car's window, instantly crystallising into a thick layer of ice, gradually encasing the vehicle in an icy grip.

Freezing rain, also known as "glaze" or "ice storm," is a type of precipitation composed of supercooled water droplets. Upon contact with objects at temperatures below zero degrees Celsius, the droplets freeze instantly.

These raindrops can remain in a supercooled state when the temperature is slightly below zero degrees Celsius. While appearing similar to regular raindrops, upon contact with surfaces below freezing, they solidify into a smooth and transparent layer of ice, known meteorologically as "glaze."
