A man was caught on CCTV stealing a scooter from the terrace of a house in Indonesia.

The victim, who was inside the house, only realised his bike had been stolen when he heard the sound of the fence being blown down.

CCTV footage shows the incident took place on Friday (16 February). The perpetrator, a man wearing a jumper and hat, watched the targeted scooter from behind the fence of the victim's house in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra province.

After making sure the apartment complex was deserted, the thief opened the fence and then used a T-key to break the bike's lock.

In no time at all, he had made off with the stolen scooter.

Mitro Hazri (48), the scooter owner, said he was inside the house when the incident happened. "I was changing the CCTV monitor to watch the news on TV, so the CCTV footage was not monitored. It was bad luck, I didn't know the thieves were about to take my scooter," Hazri added.

According to him, not only did he lose a motorbike worth nearly Rp.20 million, but also important documents and a smartphone that was kept in the seat of the motorbike.

The victim has reported the case to the police and shared the perpetrator's photo on social media so that the perpetrator can be caught quickly and others can be made aware of the perpetrator.
