Demonstrations against the regime in Taizz, Yemen
This footage was filmed and produced 22 February 2024.
The people of Taiz city stage large demonstrations against corrupt government officials. Demonstrations against the regime are popular among the people of the city in protest against the deteriorating conditions in the city, as the city lacks many things and the exchange rates are also increasingly rising. There will be demonstrations in the city in about a week, coinciding with Shaabaniyah Day, which is the day people come out to express their joy on this day. However, on the next Shaabaniyah Day, people will go the opposite way. They will go out to demand that the president step down from the governor and his group due to the deteriorating living conditions and the lack of electricity and water.
SOUNDBITE:
00:00-00:20
Governorate revenues. I want them to hand over the governorate to an ordinary citizen. I want them to hand over the governorate to me for two months. I promise to provide them with water, electricity, education, and health.
Where do the governorate’s revenues go? We are unable to provide diesel for the electrical station. Aren’t they ashamed of themselves? I want them to respect our minds.
00:23-00:30
Who took the crop of martyrs, we have ten years and the station has stopped.
00:34-00:42
A kilo of electricity costs 900 riyals. I pay exorbitant amounts every ten days to commercial power stations. We want government electricity. We want government electricity.
00:42-00:57
My message to the women of Taiz and the men of Taiz is to dismiss the governor and his group. O Nabil Shamsan, leave your position, unless we enter the governorate building.
01:03-01:13
Asifra station has been with us for nine years and no one from the local authority has spoken about it.
They are all absent.
The local authority, the governor is absent, and the agents are absent.
01:13-01:23
We ask the President’s Command Council to implement orders so that government electricity reaches the city of Taizz.
