Starbucks launches pork-flavoured coffee to celebrate Chinese New Year
Starbucks launched a pork-flavoured coffee to celebrate Chinese New Year in China.
The video was filmed in Shanghai on February 18.
Starbucks China has caused a stir with its latest offering, the braised pork latte. It is actually Starbucks' new creation called the "Yearly Prosperity Savory Latte". According to the product details, it blends the flavours of Dongpo braised pork sauce with espresso, steamed milk, and is topped with more Dongpo braised pork sauce and pork floss, all for the price of 68 yuan (£7.5).
This limited edition beverage is part of Starbucks' Lunar New Year collection for the Year of the Dragon in 2024 and is available at 25 selected Starbucks stores nationwide.
A spokesperson for Starbucks China revealed that the Yearly Prosperity Savory Latte has been met with curiosity and interest from customers, with some even visiting stores specifically to inquire about the unique drink. Customers have described the flavour as uniquely rich and smooth.
One lady who tried the coffee remarked that it came topped with a piece of pork floss, with a slightly sweet and savory taste, although she couldn't quite discern the flavour of the braised pork itself. She noted, "Towards the end, it felt like there were bacon bits settling at the bottom," adding that it's perfect for the adventurous palate and those seeking a novel experience.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
