The victims relatives lead a ceremony 12 years after the accident in Buenos Aires, Argentina
This footage was filmed and produced 22 February 2024.
On February 22, 2012, exactly at 8:33am, a train arriving at platform number 2 did not stop and rammed into the containment bumpers, which caused the death of 52 people.
Twelve years after the accident, the relatives held an emotional ceremony for the anniversary. The event took place at the Sarmiento train head station, when at 8:32 a.m. the sirens were turned on to remember the fatal victims and to ask for justice: "Justice is also action, it is empathy from and towards other similar cases. Justice is memory, justice is not to be repeated", declared Paolo Menghini.
As every year, the relatives of the victims of the train accident led an emotional act that took place at the head station of the Sarmiento train, in Once, the place where the famous tragedy occurred. At the exact time of the accident, sirens were lit to remember the deceased and to ask for justice.
It should be recalled that 21 people were sentenced for the incident. Among them are public officials - the former Secretaries of Transportation of the Nation Juan Pablo Schiavi (8 years in prison) and Ricardo Jaime (6 years), the company's directors and the engine driver.
Even so, 12 years after the tragedy, the relatives continue with their demand for justice. All those convicted for the incident are not imprisoned and enjoy house arrest or parole.
This footage illustrates the various acts of tribute to the victims.
