An elephant thanked foresters by raising it's trunk after they rescued its baby which had fallen into a canal in southern India's Tamil Nadu.

This incident happened in Ayyrangal beat of Pollachi range, Anamalai Tiger Reserve Pollachi division, in Coimbatore District, on February 23.

Visuals showed the rescuers save the life of the baby elephant from the canal. The elephant was seen with its little one inside the canal and after a lot of effort, it could not save the latter with the flow of water being very strong.

The forest department staff waited for the mother to go away a bit before they made their way into the canal to pull off the rescue operation.

The officials went down in the water and lifted the baby elephant out of the same and put it on the ground before carrying it away en route to reuniting it with its mother.

Elated to have received her little one back, the mother elephant raised her trunk in appreciation as she walked away with the baby pachyderm.

The rescue operation, a pretty risky one due to strong water flow, was pulled out successfully by FD Ramasubraniam, DD B.Teja, Pugalenthi FRO, Thilakar Forester, Saravanan Forest guard, Vellingiri Forest guard, Murali Forest watcher, Rasu Forest watcher, Balu APW, Nagaraj APW, Mahesh APW, & Chinnathan forest guard.
