A freight train has travelled more than 70km without a driver through India's Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab.

The train moved from Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir to Hoshiarpur district in Punjab on Sunday (February 25) at speeds of 100kmh.

According to the railways, the train was brought to a stop and no one was hurt. Wooden blocks were placed on the tracks to help bring the train to a halt.

The 53-wagon train was carrying stone chips when it stopped at Kathua for a crew change. Officials say the train began moving down a slope when the driver and his assistant disembarked.
