This is the oddly terrifying moment a tourist was unaware he had a huge spider on his back.

The Canadian holidaymaker was walking up a mountain trail when a guide noticed the eight-inch venomous arachnid clinging to his denim jacket in Phang Nga, Thailand.

Struggling to explain in English what the creature is, he said to the man 'I just don't want to touch it, I'm too scared'.

Footage shows how the confused young North American then asks others for help removing it.

As he turned around, an English woman shouted, 'Oh my God. ' With her stomach churning, she backed away, unable to control her fear.

'Oh my god,' she said again, as the tourist became increasingly worried while pleading for help.

The nightmarish situation continued, with the man unable to find anybody willing to go near the beast.

'Come on, help a bro out, come on, please man,' he said while asking other tourists to help him.

Onlooker Wit, a Thai fisherman and tour guide who recorded the video, said: 'It was funny and scary at the same time. He didn't know he had a spider on his back.

'These kinds of spiders are big, and they bite humans, so I think he would have been scared if he saw it.'

The Canadian eventually removed his jacket and the spider curled up in a defensive ball. They left it on the ground.

Golden silk orb-weaver spiders, like the one in the video, carry a powerful bite that can cause localised pain, numbness, and swelling.

They are found throughout the south of Thailand where they weave large webs on trees in woodland - often next to paths and roads where humans walk.
