A heroic Thai pilot helped deliver a newborn baby girl that was born mid-air on his flight.

Father-of-one Jakarin Sararnrakskul was captaining the Airbus A320 when the cabin crew heard a woman going through intense labour pains in the toilet.

Quick thinking Jakarin leaped from the cockpit and rushed to help the woman, leaving his female co-pilot Bammbam Pannathorn at the controls.

With the infant already crowning, it became clear that she would need to give birth on the plane flying the four-hour journey from Taipei, Taiwan to Bangkok, Thailand.

Cool-headed Jakarin helped the mother-to-be calm down as he methodically delivered the baby - which they nicknamed Sky - with the help of the flight attendants on Friday, February 23.

Photos following the mid-air birth show a smiling Jakarin cradling the blood-covered baby, wrapped in a blanket, in his arms. He then posed with his all-female cabin crew.

Jakarin said: 'This is the first time I've delivered a baby in my 18 years of flying. We've nicknamed him Sky Baby.

'He will be able to tell everyone for the rest of his life that he was born in the air. I feel so proud that I could help to bring him into the world.

'My co-pilot Bammbam was incredible as were the all-girl crew.'

Jakarin said that paramedics were waiting at the airport to meet the mother and the newborn.

The first time mother and her newborn were checked by medics when the flight landed at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport around 24 minutes late.

Both of them were safe and healthy and they returned home together.

VietJet is a low-cost carrier with headquarters in Hanoi, Vietnam. They fly across Asia and have become known for their female cabin crew's distinctive uniforms.

They were dubbed 'Bikini Airlines' in 2016 for their use of models in two-piece swimsuits in promotional stunts.
