The Nvidia phenomenon: the technology company that increased its market value
This footage was filmed and produced 26 October 2023.
Shares of tech firm Nvidia soared 16% and the company reached a market value of nearly $2 trillion. This Thursday alone its capitalization climbed by nearly $280 billion. The rally helped it to place itself on the podium of the world's most valuable companies, only surpassed by Microsoft (US$ 3.06 trillion and Apple (US$ 2.8 trillion).
Nvidia jumped to the top of Wall Street in 2023, with the artificial intelligence boom. But the company had already been growing by leaps and bounds because it manufactures key inputs for the multibillion-dollar market of gamers and cryptocurrency miners.
Until its balance sheet came out with earnings well above expectations - on Tuesday night - all of Wall Street was on edge. A bad balance sheet from Nvidia could trigger a sharp drop. But that didn't happen. Quite the opposite. On Thursday, the Nasdaq rose more than 3%. And the Dow Jones once again set a new record high.
Nvidia, which these days made a big splash, competes with Intel, AMD, and the Chinese giant Huawei. However, it is Nvidia that has an 80% market share. "From this point of view, it could be said that it is a monopoly," says Merener. The company, which has been in the market for more than 30 years, has multiplied its value exponentially over the last five years. In the last two years, in fact, it tripled its value.
The specialist emphasized the value of this company, as one of the technology companies with a high market capitalization and added: "To have an idea of what Nvidia's capital means, it is 21 times Mercado Libre, which today is worth 91 billion dollars".
