STORYLINE:
Experts from both Hungary and China discussed China's decisive role in global connectivity through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and expected deepening China-Hungary friendship through BRI during a seminar held in Budapest on Friday.
The seminar on Promoting High-quality Belt and Road Cooperation was organized by the Xinhua Institute, a media-based think tank from China.
Many experts attending the seminar advocated for deeper bilateral friendship through joint efforts, especially within the BRI framework.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): LEVENTE HORVATH, Director of the Eurasia Center of the John von Neumann University in Hungary
"Hungary is (one of) the first countries to join the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and Belt and Road cooperation. We believe that it is not only because of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), but also because Hungary has an 'Opening to the East' policy, cooperation between China and Hungary can be strengthened and deepened in all aspects. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Hungary, so we believe that this year (the two countries) will increase their speed to develop cooperation under the BRI."
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): CSABA MO LDICZ, Head of the School of International Relations at the Mathias Corvinus Collegium
"I think investments like the one of BYD, the one of CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd.), are good examples of high quality cooperation. Because they not only contribute to the strategy of Chinese companies, but also fit to the Hungarian development strategy as well. We shouldn't forget the Hungarian economy mainly rely on automotive sector, and in this sense we need this kind of investment in order to modernize and upgrade our automotive industry. So that's why Chinese investments are welcome."
