In a terrifying and brave moment caught on camera, Sedalia police officers rescued a woman from a burning vehicle following a crash early morning of February 22.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. near East Broadway and South Brown Avenue when the driver of a vehicle hit a telephone pole, causing live power lines and two trees to fall. The engine compartment quickly caught fire.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers saw a motorist trying to put out the flames in the engine compartment without success. One officer approached the vehicle and found the driver trapped inside. Despite the severely damaged driver door, the officer managed to open it and cut away two airbags to free the driver and release her seatbelt.

The driver, who was unconscious from the crash, was then carried to safety by two other officers as the vehicle continued to burn. The Sedalia Fire Department arrived shortly after to extinguish the fire.

The victim, a 23-year-old woman from Grain Valley, was treated at the scene before being transported to the hospital for further care. The quick actions of the Sedalia police officers undoubtedly saved her life in this harrowing situation.
