This is the dramatic moment a stray dog drowning in a weir was rescued by paramedics in Thailand.

The pooch had been looking for food near a bridge, but slipped off the edge and plunged into a river in Kanchanaburi province on February 16.

Passers-by spotted the stray struggling amid the strong currents and called animal rescuers for help, fearing it would drown.

The paramedics rushed to the scene and found the dog sitting on a concrete block jutting out of the water.

They initially tried to scoop up the stray using a net, but it kept swimming back into the water to escape.

Finally, they managed to snare its legs and hoisted it back up onto the riverbanks after 30 minutes.

The frightened mutt was seen shaking itself dry before running away.
