Locals were left cowering in fear as a leopard roamed around Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, on February 24.

According to locals, the leopard injured two people in the area as they tried to escape.

A team of 50 consisting of forest department officials and police officers worked together to capture the leopard in an operation that took over five hours.

A leopard's presence sent shockwaves in a locality, rescued by officials in western India's Maharashtra.

This incident happened in Kedgaon, Ambika Nagar colony in Ahmednagar district on February 24.

Visuals showed frightening scenes where people ran about here and there to save themselves from the animal which was on the run. The big cat was seen walking on the courtyard of a house and people cowered with fear at its sight. The leopard later pounced on a man in the area.

An atmosphere of panic reigned supreme in the area. People were also spotted throwing stones at the animal to fend off the attack. Locals also helped each other as the animal wreaked havoc. Residents in the locality were completely taken aback by the animal's presence in this area. It was reported that the leopard injured two people in the area.

As per a report, both of these injured encountered the animal as they were trying to escape from it and sustained injuries. A 20-man forest department team and 30 cops were involved in the rescue operation of the leopard which took over five hours to be completed. The animal evaded the officials by escaping using the walls of the houses in the area and later was tranquilised and captured, much to the relief of everyone present at the spot.
