This is the incredible moment a reindeer herd stepped into the middle of a road causing a traffic jam.

Ellen Lindelöw and her friends were travelling through Jämtland, Sweden, on the way to go skiing on February 12 when they had a very unusual delay.

Stunning footage – which has been viewed more than 1million times – captured the moment Ellen’s vehicle had to slow down as four of the antlered animals started to trot off the road.

The quartet then turned back into the tarmac while a further eight reindeer further down the road caused traffic to carefully manoeuvre the road.

Ellen said: “The last part of the way to the skiing, we had to stop for these beautiful reindeer. We were very careful and tried not to scare the animals.

“But a school bus and showed everyone how the locals cope with the animals. My husband turned to me and laughed saying ‘that’s what they do here, the driver lives here’.”
