An abandoned baby boy stuffed inside a bag and left in the middle of a cornfield was rescued.

The infant was crying from hunger and was heard by electrician Anocha Chuai, 36, who was on his way to install solar panels on the fields in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand on February 25.

Upon closer inspection, Anocha said he saw a tiny hand poking out of the bag and realised there was a newborn inside.

The boy was wrapped in a towel and put inside the navy blue shoulder bag with folded clothes including bloodied pants, a shirt, and a blanket.

Footage shows local authorities inspecting the contents of the bag after the child had been taken to the hospital with the help of the worker.

Anocha said: ‘I thought I was hearing a gecko's cry. It was coming from the hut so out of curiosity, I went to check.

‘A blue bag and a small hand was coming out of it. It was a baby. I dropped to my knees because I was shocked. I felt so sorry for the baby.

‘After a few minutes of checking him, I called the police and hospital.'

Medics at the Sueng Sang Hospital estimated the baby to be 39 hours old and healthy. He would remain at the hospital for further observation.

Meanwhile, Sueng Sang Police Station officers launched a search in the area to find the boy's mother, checking recent pregnancies or births in clinics and hospitals.

Deputy Superintendent Police Lieutenant Suwit Nanta said: ‘A team has been deployed to the area to investigate. Emphasis is placed on recently pregnant women or recent births.'
