A sunken church emerged as a lake's water level fell due to a shortage of rain in the Philippines.

The top portion with the 8ft-tall cross of Bajaoen Church can be seen by visitors who hire a boat whenever it is low-tide in Zambales province.

Footage shows the church that was submerged in the middle of Mapanuepe Lake being toured by holidaymakers onboard a local's vessel on February 14.

Tourist Ryan Rubang said: 'The church still stood with most of the structure intact. It was a unique tour for me.'

After Mount Pinatubo's massive 1991 eruption, lahar mudflows flowing down from the volcano blocked the drainage route of the Mapanuepe River. This obstruction caused the Mapanuepe Valley to flood slowly over time, submerging several villages - including Aglao, Buhawen and Pili - under newly formed lake waters. The gradual flooding enabled villagers to evacuate and resettle along the lake's fresh shoreline.
