Fairground staff rolled a Ferris wheel gondola upright when it overturned with people still inside.

Footage shows workers standing on the Ferris wheel spokes to fix the upside-down cabin as the terrified occupants held on for their lives at a temple fair in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on February 23.

Tourist Tanakorn Sompen said his wife Thewikan, their son Time, and his five-year-old nephew, were inside the gondola when it flipped over.

He said: 'I heard the crowd screaming and pointing at the Ferris wheel. When I looked up, the gondola was upside down with its door open.

'I'm glad my family is safe, but they are still in shock until now. Let this be a lesson to other tourists not to go on fairground rides carelessly.'

Officials have not clarified the cause of the incident.

However, Tanakorn said the ride appeared old and not maintained.
